Abbey Poniente Monsalud is a first generation Filipinx American multidisciplinary artist, pre-licensed art therapist, and social justice activist. Their primary focuses are photography, videography, and ceramics. Abbey would describe their art practice to be “ever-shifting,” but based in the kindred spirit of kapwa (a Filipino value of shared identity and equality). They mainly focus on concepts such as intersectional feminism, bi-cultural identity, personal/cultural histories, and phenomenology — being critically conscious of their sociocultural positionality in relation to others and leading with compassion and love of the self and the other.
